The majority of niobium is used in pipeline steels in order to maintain integrity under pressure in remote regions. Thermomechanical properties of niobium allows for more control during rolling and other processing at the mill, ultimately reducing grain variability and enhancing fracture toughness. Niobium enhanced steels further offer numerous advantages during construction and fabrication on-site, improving weldability for critical structural applications for freight and interconnection infrastructure.
